TIPS FOR YOUR ADVENTURE
Before traveling
Check that your passport and travel documents are valid. Book your tours and tickets in advance, especially for Machu Picchu. Purchase travel insurance for peace of mind.
Weather and Clothing
Peru has different climates depending on the region: coast, highlands, and jungle. Pack light clothing for warm areas and warm clothes for high-altitude cities like Cusco or Puno. Don’t forget a raincoat or poncho during the rainy season.
Tips for the High Altitude
Rest for the first few hours after arriving in high-altitude cities such as Cusco or Puno. Avoid strenuous physical activity on the first day. Stay well hydrated throughout your trip. Eat light meals for the first 24 hours.
Money and Payments
The official currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN). It is recommended that you carry some cash for small purchases or personal expenses. Most hotels and restaurants accept credit and debit cards. Payments for package tours and guided tours are made in U.S. dollars (USD).
Connectivity and Transportation
We recommend purchasing a local SIM card to have internet access during your trip. WhatsApp is the most widely used communication app in Peru. Use licensed taxis or ride-hailing apps. Always keep your personal belongings safe in crowded places. Arrive early at bus stations and airports.
Gastronomy and Responsible Tourism
Try Peru’s renowned cuisine, considered one of the best in the world. Drink bottled water during your excursions. Respect local communities and archaeological sites. Do not leave trash behind during your excursions. Help preserve Peru’s natural and cultural heritage.
