Itinerary
- The day before, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8:00 p.m. to take you to the bus terminal, where you’ll board your tourist bus from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (sleeper bus with seats that recline 160°).
- We'll pick you up at the airport or the bus terminal and stop by the office, where you can leave any luggage you won't need during the tour.
- Then we head to the dock and take a 15-minute boat ride down the Madre de Dios River to the lodge, where you'll settle into your bungalow.
- Accompanied by your guide, you'll explore the trails around the lodge to learn about the area's flora and fauna.
- After lunch, we took a 20-minute boat ride to the monkey house, a great opportunity to see the five species that live there.
- At dusk, we set out with flashlights in search of capybaras and caimans, whose eyes glow red in the light.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
- From the lodge, we took a 10-minute boat ride to the entrance to Lake Sandoval.
- We entered the Tambopata National Reserve with a hike of about 1 hour, and upon reaching the lake, we boarded a canoe to explore it and observe the many birds and animals that live there.
- We returned to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon we went fishing.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
- At 5:00 a.m., we set out for the La Cachuela parrot clay lick, about 50 minutes upstream.
- There, you'll see many species of parrots gather on the clay banks of the Madre de Dios River, putting on a multicolored spectacle of flight and song that you'll never forget; with any luck, we'll also spot some sloths.
- After breakfast, we picked up the kayaks from the lodge and paddled down the Madre de Dios River to the adventure activity center.
- After a 5-minute walk, we climb a 20-meter tower and cross the suspension bridges to view the jungle from the treetops, just as the animals see it.
- Return to the lodge and lunch.
- In the afternoon, we took a boat ride to watch the sunset over the river.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
- Around 9:30 a.m., we'll visit a family from the Machiguenga community, with whom you'll have the chance to talk and learn about their culture and way of life.
- We return to the lodge for lunch, pack our bags, and take a motorboat back to Puerto Maldonado, where we’ll take you to the bus terminal.
- A night aboard the sleeper bus.
- The tour ends with the return transfer to Cusco.

- Bring a lightweight backpack for hikes and daily activities in the jungle.
- Wear comfortable, quick-drying clothing, preferably long pants and long-sleeved polo shirts.
- Wear a hat or cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the tropical sun.
- Don't forget to bring a strong insect repellent.
- Wear hiking shoes or boots with good traction, preferably waterproof ones. On rainy days, rubber boots are provided.
- Bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during your excursions.
- Protect your camera or cell phone from moisture, and bring enough battery power to photograph the wildlife and landscapes.
- Bring your personal medications and necessary toiletries for 4 days.
- Bring cash (soles) for personal expenses and additional purchases.
- Include a lightweight, warm garment for evenings and early-morning activities.
- Bring a poncho or raincoat, especially during the rainy season.
- Get ready to wake up early: the visit to the parrot clay lick starts around 5:00 a.m.
- During your visit with the Machiguenga indigenous family, enjoy the experience with respect and an open mind so you can learn about their customs and way of life.
